Questions

What does the multiplier mean?

The multiplier is a video's views divided by the median views of the same channel's videos from the 3 months before it was posted. A 10x video got ten times what that channel was getting at the time. Ranking also weighs recency with a one-year half-life, so a fresh breakout outranks an old one of the same size.

How does confidence work?

Confidence tells you how solid the comparison is. Views are captured at 48 hours, 7 days, 28 days and 90 days, so a video is measured against what the earlier videos had at the same age. High means at least ten earlier videos were measured at that age on a channel with 10,000 or more subscribers. Medium means at least five earlier videos. Low means three or four. With fewer than three videos in the 3 months before it, a video gets no multiplier.

How are long videos and Shorts compared?

Separately. Long videos are compared only with the channel's other long videos, and Shorts only with its other Shorts. YouTube's own Shorts list decides which is which, so a viral Short never inflates or drags down a long video's score.
